Groundwork

Groundwork pattern

The founding groundwork pattern is ridden — or rather led — in hand in an approximately 20 m × 20 m level, safe working space. It includes halts, turns, rein-back, an obstacle or pole element and trot in hand, and is judged on accuracy, partnership, handler technique and presentation.

The full movement-by-movement sequence, equipment rules, permitted assistance and penalty schedule are published on the class page.

Using these tests

  • These are our own tests. They are guidance material and are not official federation dressage tests or arena diagrams.
  • A formal dressage arena is not required. Improvised markers are permitted.
  • You may use them for schooling at home, in a lesson, or to prepare an entry for one of our classes.
  • Please do not resell them or present them as another organisation's material.
